The Bayville Primary School all-purpose room was transformed into a winter wonderland on a cozy December evening complete with cocoa to warm them up. Students arrived at the school that evening in their pajamas and got cozy as Assistant Principal Dorothy McManus read Polar Express to get the night started.
Following story time, children each made a snowman ornament, snacked on cookies and cocoa and colored pictures related to the story. They also worked on a literacy activity in which they placed pictures and sentences in the order in which they happened in the story.
Winter Wonderland was fun and served as a fundraiser for cancer research. Families were sent a printable page of colored ribbons representing various types of cancer. They were invited to cut out the ribbon of their choosing and place it in an envelope with a donation. A total of $635 was donated in just one night, with pancreatic and breast cancer donations leading the way.
“The children had fun while learning and we supported great causes,” said McManus.
