Beatrice D. ‘Milo’ Gray


Beatrice D. “Milo” Gray passed away peacefully at her home in Locust Valley on Feb. 27, 2015 a month after her 96th birthday. She attended Chapin and Brearley as well as school in France and Germany. Milo was predeceased by in 1997 by her husband of 55 years, Austen T. (Sonny) and her step daughter, Alice Standteiner (Squaw Valley, CA).

Milo worked in her early years as an editor for Harper’s Bazaar magazine and was a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She loved her dogs and to garden. She was an active sportswoman who played a competitive game of tennis, golf and bridge, winning many awards as a member of Piping Rock Club and the Tarrantine Club, Dark Habor, ME.

Milo is survived by her daughter and husband, Pam and Jack Reese (Quechee, VT); her son and his wife, Austen Jr. (Towny) and Lynn (NY and Sun Valley, ID); her step daughter Phyllis Heaton (Taos, NM); a sister, Alison Murry (Weston, CT); and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 14, 11 a.m. at St. Gertrude’s Church, 28 School St., Bayville. Arrangements by Dodge-Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LUNGevity Foundation, 218 South Wabash Ave., Suite 540, Chicago IL 60604.
