More than $12,000 raised for 2018 Glen Cove anniversary festivities

The Glen Cove Ferry Terminal was the backdrop of community spirited fundraising event created the by the GC350 Committee. Set against a beautiful waterfront seascape residents came together to show their Glen Cove community pride while helping to raise money to underwrite the city’s anniversary festivities in 2018. Those activities will include celebrating two historic milestones—the 350th anniversary of the founding of Glen Cove and the 100th birthday of Glen Cove’s incorporation as a dity with a series of activities including a gala January event and a week-long celebration in May 2018 complete with a community picnic, fireworks, a weekend street festival, Old Timer’s baseball game and the annual Memorial Day parade.

The sold-out event featured the talented brew masters of the Garvies Point Brewery, who offered a taste of a new summer ale which was crafted in honor of the city’s upcoming 350th anniversary in 2018. Thanks to the generosity of corporate event sponsors, 76 North Realty Co., the Bendi Group, One Garvies Point LLC and the Brew & BBQ attendees, more than $12,000 was raised to help underwrite next year’s anniversary celebration.

“This event introduced so many of our residents to the beauty of the Glen Cove waterfront and I greatly appreciated the hard work of our GC350 committee who did an outstanding job,” said Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello. “It was a wonderful summer evening and you could feel the energy in the air as neighbors and families came together at the Glen Cove Ferry Terminal to enjoy an evening of good food, entertainment and a taste of a brand new brew.”

Guests were treated to their choice of some BBQ favorites including pulled BBQ chicken, cheeseburgers and sausage and peppers catered by Sid’s All-American Cafe, along with desserts provided by a new Glen Cove bakery, Heritage Bakery, located at 1 Garvies Point Rd. Watermelons were provided by Stop & Shop Supermarkets, Rottkamp Farms and North Shore Farms, with refreshing shaved ice treats served by Musketa Cove Bail and Tackle and John DeJesus.

Local Glen Cove musician Matt Grabowski rocked the crowds with an exciting mix of classic and contemporary hits that had people swaying to the music on the terminal’s promenade. Inside the Ferry Terminal building volunteers were selling GC350 embroidered hats and silk screened tee-shirts, customized bricks for the new Glen Cove 350th Heritage Garden and promoting the upcoming GC350 Golf Outing which will be held on Oct. 16. The GC350 Special Events committee chairperson Jacquelyn Yonick along with Brew & BBQ event chair Gabor Karasi and logistics co-chairpersons Charles Chiclacos and Tony Jimenez were joined by Vinny Martinez Jr., Manny Grella, Jamie Corn, Phyllis Gorham, Anne Fitzgibbon and GC350 Advisory Board Members Dave Nieri, Deputy Mayor Barbara Peebles, Lisa Travatello, Kathie Flynn, Tab Hauser, Amy Driscoll, Carolyn D. Willson, Paul Meli to help plan the GC350 Brew & BBQ event with support from 25 committee volunteers and the children of the Glen Cove Youth Bureau who helped with event logistics and children’s entertainment.
