Members of the Glen Head-Glenwood Business Association celebrated the season in style on Dec. 14, at the annual holiday party held at the American Legion Post 336 in Glen Head. In addition to food, raffles, door prizes and dancing, the celebration included the installation of officers for 2017 and awards to several standout members who contributed to the association throughout the past year.

“The business association does a lot for this community; a lot of people don’t realize that, but we’re trying to get the word out and grow the organization over the next year,” said Tucker Tongue, the outgoing president of the organization.

Scott Whitting, owner of Whitting Funeral Home in Glen Head, conducted the swearing in of the officers. Deborah Orgel- Gordon was sworn in as president for 2017, becoming the first woman to have that role in the organization. She presented awards to members and to Tongue for his years of service. Maria Grieco was named Volunteer of the Year.

“She goes over and beyond in helping our business association by volunteering all the time,” said Orgel-Gordon. “When we need any kind of volunteer, she always steps up.”

Betsy Gibbs, owner of Worth Repeating and the new recording secretary of the association, received the Member of the Year award.

“Since I met her, she has stepped up and been on every party committee and she always lends a helping hand,” said Orgel-Gordon.

Attendees had the opportunity to win door prizes and contribute to a 50/50 raffle. Area businesses donated the prizes and a gorgeous cake was donated by I Ada Cake for party-goers to enjoy. The evening was filled with music and a lot of dancing.

“I look forward to 2017 and us growing and thriving,” said Orgel-Gordon.
