Children Promote Glen Cove’s ‘Brave The Shave’

Mayor Reggie Spinello and members of the Glen Cove City Council hosted a visit from young Colton Valeo and his family at the March 8 city council meeting.

With his hair spiked high and wearing his best bow tie, Valeo told the mayor, city council members and residents about his commitment to raise money and get his head shaved to help children with cancer.

Pictured with Mayor Reggie Spinello and the Glen Cove City Council are members of the Valeo family: Colton, Cally, Cooper, Donna and Chris, along with Debbie Wandelt.

When asked by the mayor why this event is important to him, Valeo said, “I don’t want children to die.”

On March 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., The Downtown Café, Strong Island Styles, volunteer stylists and local residents will participate in the ninth annual “Brave the Shave” event to benefit childhood cancer research. The event is part of a nationwide St. Baldrick’s Day celebration and over the past eight years, this group and volunteers have raised more than $200,000 for St. Baldrick’s and the Nicholas Pedone Foundation. It will take place at the same time as the parade. For more information, contact The Downtown Café at 516-759-2233.
