When the holiday season comes to a close, the City of Glen Cove’s Beautification Commission will host its annual “Chip-A-Tree” event for residents to recycle their used evergreen Christmas trees. The event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Morgan Memorial Park parking lot on Germaine Street.
“We appreciate the support of our community and the Beautification Commission as the donated trees will be chipped for landscaping use at Glen Cove Adopt-A-Spots and city parks,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello.
There will be free coffee and donuts for all and the first 50 Glen Cove residents will receive a free evergreen sapling. Residents are asked to remove all decorations and lights from their trees before recycling.
For those who are unable to attend the Jan. 7 event, beginning Jan. 4, trees can be dropped off at a designated area in the Morgan Memorial Park parking lot. After Jan. 7, Christmas trees will be picked up curbside on Wednesdays with yard waste by the Glen Cove’s Sanitation Department.
