College-Bound Student-Athlete Night


The Glen Cove High School Athletic Department hosted a College-Bound Student-Athlete Workshop recently for students in seventh through 12th grades who are interested in playing a sport at the collegiate level.

The discussion was led by college coaches from the Division II level: Bree Nasti and Ophir Sadeh (women’s softball) from Adelphi University and Meghan McNamara (women’s lacrosse) from LIU Post.

Glen Cove High School coaches Chris MacDonald and Nicole Sileo were also members of the panel. Girls and boys tennis and wrestling coach MacDonald played soccer and tennis at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, a Division III program. Girls lacrosse coach Sileo was a lacrosse player at LIU Post, a Division II school.

CollegeBoundAthlete_012716AGlen Cove High School senior Lindsay Dwyer, who recently signed an official Letter of Intent with a full athletic scholarship to the University of Illinois, Division I Big 10 for Gymnastics, rounded out the panel and provided a student-athlete’s perspective to those in attendance.

The panel presented a series of topics that included the roles of the student-athlete, parent and school in the college-bound process. Also discussed were the nuts and bolts of recruiting, the college search, financial aid, NCAA Clearinghouse and Eligibility, and college-level competition. After the presentation, time was allotted for questions. All participants were provided resources and information regarding the college-bound process.
