The Glen Cove Rotary Club, in conjunction with The Family Health & Education Foundation International, is sponsoring multiple shoe drives across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The project is titled Super Shoe to School Drive.
Beginning this past January, the club distributed a mailing to other Rotary Clubs in its home district, Rotary District 7255. The advertisement called for Rotary Youth Leaders (part of RYLA), InterAct clubs (Rotary-sponsored club for high school students) and other individual clubs to pledge to host their own shoe drives. The goal is to collect 200,000 shoes that will be donated to The Family Health & Education Foundation International. The shoes will then go to students who will attend a new, foundation-sponsored school under construction in Ghana, West Africa.
The deadline for shoe collection is Feb. 13. Anyone interested in donating shoes can email firstname.lastname@example.org. New and gently used shoes, boots, sneakers and other footwear are all accepted.
The Glen Cove Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at Page One Steakhouse in Glen Cove.
