The lights were on after the school day at the Glen Cove Youth Bureau and Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club recently as part of a national effort to recognize the critical need for afterschool programs. Thousands of organizations in the U.S. support the Lights On Afterschool initiative as afterschool programs are vital for many working families who need supervised after-school programs for their children.

Underscoring the community value of after-school programs in Glen Cove, Mayor Reggie Spinello and Councilwoman Pamela Panzenbeck spent time with the program directors and children at both organizations. They also offered their congratulations to retired Glen Cove Police Department Sergeant Jack McDougal who received the national Maytag Dependable Leadership award for his outstanding contributions to the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club.

“Glen Cove is fortunate to have two highly recognized afterschool programs available in our city,” said Spinello. “It’s clear that our children and their parents benefit greatly from the many educational, recreational and cultural activities offered by both of these organizations.”
