On Saturday, May 7, the City of Glen Cove will host its 10th annual Senior Recognition Day to celebrate the city’s senior community and honor the area’s centenarians (residents age 100 and older). All are invited to join the city’s seniors, their families, and friends for this special celebration in downtown Village Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day’s events are free to all and will include food tastings, the music of The Les Stanco Band, special activities like a photo booth, chair yoga and adult coloring, giveaways and an assortment of vendor sales and information booths.
“Senior Day brings our community together to celebrate the vitality of our city’s elders and we have been proud to sponsor this event for the past 10 years. It is an honor to meet our community’s centenarians as they are members of the greatest generation, a title for which they rightfully deserve,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello.
“This year the Senior Day Committee will celebrate Willibe Wilson and Beatrice ‘Bea’ Galesky with the prestigious Lifetime Service Award for their extraordinary contributions to the Glen Cove senior community,” said Carol Waldman, executive director of the Glen Cove Senior Center. “We are also very excited to recognize Nina and Stuart Held with the Senior Volunteers of the Year Award and Senator Carl Marcellino with the Bob Howard Award.”
Senior Recognition Day is sponsored by the City of Glen Cove, the Glen Cove Senior Center, the Glen Cove Youth Bureau, the Downtown B.I.D., Northwell Health, the Chamber of Commerce and the city’s assisted living and nursing care facilities including Atria Senior Living Glen Cove, The Regency at Glen Cove, Glengariff Healthcare Center, The Glen Cove Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Marquis Care Center, and Sunrise Senior Living at Glen Cove.
In the event of rain, the event will be held at the Senior Center, at 130 Glen St. For more information contact the Glen Cove Senior Center at 516-759-7690.
