Glen Cove Jr. LAX Season Ends

By Brian “Condo” Neice

The Glen Cove Junior Lacrosse 2015 season is officially over, as the first- and second-grade Knights closed out their season against Syosset on Sunday, June 14.

The final home game of the season was played in their typical fashion: slow beginning, with a fight to the end. The first quarter had Syosset up by four goals despite some spectacular saves made by Jon Christ. At halftime, the deficit was five.

The second half of the game was a different story as Cole Trotto opened the scoring with the first of his two goals. Gianni Rodriguez, Patrick Houghton and Vincent Milano each chippped in goals in the fourth quarter as the defense held Syosset in check and held them to only one goal in the second half with outstanding goaltending performed by Stefano Malatos.

Defensive standouts for the game were Charlie Guastella, Dante Talisaysay and Dylan Jenkins with Vincent Pascucci chipping in wherever he could. James Pascucci, Brayden O’Leary and Matthew Milano contributed some valuable minutes to keep Syosset within reach, but the final horn blew and the Knights just ran out of time. But all in all it was a successful season for these mostly first-year players.

After Coach Condo finished his post game speech and thanked his coaches, Doug Schneider and Jimmy Ayres, the final piece of watermelon was eaten and the now-refreshed Knights were all in agreement by saying, “We’ll be back next year.”
