It was a field of dreams for Glen Cove’s youngest athletes as 58 4- to 5-year-old children completed the six-week Preschool Instructional Tee Ball league.
Through a series of clinics, kids learned the fundamentals of the game as well as each field position and all of their hard work culminated with an opportunity to play like the “big” kids in modified games with the Gold Coast Little League.
“These talented young children are the future of baseball and softball in our city and every child learned new skills and the importance of good sportsmanship,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello.
For the 2016 season, the young players will march for the first time in the opening day parade.
“We appreciated the support of parents, volunteers and the US Sports Institute coaches,” said Darcy Belyea, director of Glen Cove Parks & Recreation. “It takes a team to teach our children and we appreciated the efforts of Phil Rizzo, Max Feigman, Lou Larice and Joe Carucci whose time and participation helped so many young players enjoy America’s favorite pastime.”
