A memorial service will be held for John Joel Messer, 49, of Muncy, PA, who passed away on Jan. 5, 2015, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Carrie Messer, in Dillsburg, PA. The service will be held on June 13, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 16 Glenwood Road, Glen Head, NY, at 10 a.m.
John was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Mark Messer. He is survived by his grandmother, Irene Peterson, of Davenport, IA; parents Donna and Terrill Messer, of Fayetteville, PA; older brother, Paul and his wife Carrie of Dillsburg, PA; nephew, Sean Basdavanos and his wife Allie of Glen Cove, NY; nephew, Joel Messer and his wife, Katie of Odenton, MD; niece Kayla Lowrie and her husband Craig of Lebanon, PA; niece Kaitlyn Messer of Hampton Bays, NY; and great-nieces, Lilian Messer and Alexamarie Lowrie.
John was a 1983 graduate of North Shore High School. He received a degree in business administration and industrial engineering from Oneonta and Buffalo universities. After about 10 years in industry, he decided that he would like to teach and earned a master’s degree in education from Bloomsburg University. John was employed as a professor at Penn College of Technology in Williamsport, PA.
He was an avid outdoors-man and environmentalist who enjoyed hiking and skiing. He loved Muncy Hills, where he made his home with his constant Beagle companion, Buddy; and he cherished family, friends, co-workers, and students. Once he was your friend, you couldn’t have had a better one.
