The North Shore Kiwanis Club honored Julia Albanese, graduating senior at North Shore High School, as Student of the Month for December. Albanese took the Kiwanis dais on Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Swan Club for a dinner in her honor, as the recipient for this award.
The Kiwanis audience was so impressed with this young lady as she explained with such poise and grace, why she became a member of the Key Club and wanted to give back to the North Shore Community. Albanese related to her captive Kiwanis audience many of the projects she had the pleasure to volunteer for and how proud she felt to be able to share her time to make a different. Some of the projects with her experiences included a visit to the Nassau County Children’s Medical Center and giving a cuddly teddy bear to a sick child, which put a smile on that child’s face and going to the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park to cook dinner for the families and create arts and crafts with the children who were residents at RMH and patients at Cohens Children medical center.
She talked about some very special moments she had at St. Christopher-Ottillie Children’s Home and the annual holiday party, where she interacted with the residents with arts and crafts, as well as helping Kiwanian Santa and his Key Clubber elf, who also arrived and gave out gifts to the children.
