Swim Across America’s “Sound to the Cove Swim” will once again be coming to the shores of Glen Cove this Saturday, Aug. 8. Swim Across America is a non-profit organization which holds events nationwide to raise money for cancer research. The day’s festivities, held in Glen Cove’s Morgan Memorial Park, will begin with a 4:30 a.m. breakfast and conclude with a noon awards ceremony.
Glen Cove residents are encouraged to attend and root on participating swimmers. One Glen Cove teen, Eitan Gitlin, will be taking on the “Sound to the Cove Swim” challenge. Gitlin, captain of the Glen Cove Cares Team, is making waves in his efforts to fund cancer research.
“We applaud Eitan’s commitment to community service and wish him and the Glen Cove Cares team smooth waters in their upcoming Sound to the Cove swim,” said Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello.
Swim Across America’s “Sound to the Cove Open Water Swim” is still accepting applications for registration and is also accepting donations on their website. So far the event has raised $212,391 towards its $300,000 goal. To support Eitan’s Glen Cove Cares team, donate online at www.swimacrossamerica.org.
