On a crisp fall day, the City of Glen Cove gathered to pay tribute to the city’s veterans and to recognize the consummate public servant, Roger Weldon, as its 2017 Honoree. Weldon joined the United States Navy in 1950 and completed his service in 1954 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer Engineman.

Following his military service, Weldon was a Glen Cove Police Department police officer for 20 years and a member of the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department since 1957. He also served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve from 1972 through 1992. A member of the Howard A. Van Wagner Post 962 American Legion, Weldon is the proud father of three daughters and grandfather to nine.

Mayor Reggie Spinello, during his remarks about Weldon’s accomplishments and contributions, asked audience members to shake hands with our veterans and thank them for their service to the United States of America. He noted that many veterans have never heard the words, “thank you.”
