The North Shore Vipers entered the 2015 East Meadow Annual Memorial Day Tournament with their minds set on winning and that’s exactly what they did. Their championship win came Monday afternoon against the Merrillion Sharks after being undefeated in all four of their previous games played over the extended weekend. The Vipers ran up 29 total runs against the incredible talents of the East Meadow Mustangs Blue (game one: 9-5, game two: 4-0), Levittown West Tigers (7-6) and Merrillion Sharks (game one: 5-4, championship 4-3). Though these teams tried, they could not stop the powerful bats, impressive base running and major league-like fielding abilities of this up-and-coming travel baseball team.

This team came together less than a year ago under the management of head coach Rick Cook and the coaching staff of John Cook, Eric Bailey and Angel Maisonet. In such a short period of time, the coaching staff, with their years of experience and knowledge, molded the individual talents of each player into a championship team like no other. In November 2014, the Vipers won the NJBL division championship ending the season with a 12-1 record. The coaches stress the importance of teamwork and that no one player can do it all. This was best shown by the Viper’s first ever triple play in their semi-final game on Monday morning against the East Meadow Mustangs Blue and one of the most spectacular plays ever seen at this tournament.

The Vipers travel baseball team had an excellent second season.

According to Rick Cook: “Hard work, dedication and most of all respect for all aspects of the game have made this team what it is and I am so proud of them. They have shown the type of talent which will lead us to Cooperstown.”

As always, the North Shore Vipers 10U travel baseball team thanked their families and sponsors for their continued support.
