Response To American Legion Article

I am a Korean War veteran and a member of American Legion Post 336.  I would like to acknowledge our longtime Post Commander Bill Laderer who works tirelessly with honor and dignity and leads the membership with energy, enthusiasm and humor.

Current activities include ceremonies of flag burning with the boy scouts, parades, fundraising through buffet suppers donated by local restaurants, food baskets for the needy at least twice a year, blood drives, Memorial Day services, hosting community and library events, scholarships for high school graduates, dinners and dances open to the community and I could go on and on. For an area that is unincorporated, this is a very large community focus.

And Commander Laderer coordinates all of it with very involved officers as well as our house chairman, who has a big job.

This is why we need more members, younger members. It is a huge misunderstanding to think that ‘smoking and drinking’ is what goes on in 336. The Legion is a dynamic center and we need it for Glen Head and our surrounding communities.
