On April 30, the Glen Cove Golf Club will host the inaugural Robbie For A Cure Tee Up to Beat Cancer Golf Outing to support the V Foundation. This outing is in honor of Robbie Flanagan Venturino, who passed away on April 3, 2017, after a five-year battle with lung cancer, to help fund cancer research nationwide. The proceeds will support the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research.
There are still slots open for golfers with a 9:30 a.m. registration and breakfast and a 11 a.m. shotgun start. Be at the View Grill at 5 p.m. for dinner and raffles.
The event is organized by Robbie’s husband, Frank, along with daughter, Bryanne, and all Robbie’s family. When Robbie was diagnosed with lung cancer it was life altering for her, her family, and the countless individuals she had positively impacted throughout her lifetime. True to form, Robbie tackled the disease with the strength of a warrior and an attitude that radiated courage. Although Robbie lost her courageous battle with cancer, her spirit and legacy lives on.
The V Foundation was founded by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary NC State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. When Jim was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 46, his passion, courage, and relentless pursuit of a cure inspired millions. Jim may not have lived to see his dream come true, but he set into motion an organization that funds cutting-edge cancer research. With Jim’s inspiring words in mind—”Don’t give up…Don’t ever give up”—I will support that vision as I go the distance for Jim and Robbie and for all those diagnosed with cancer. Like Jim, Frank and Bryanne believe that one day we will find a cure for cancer. They are fundraising for the V Foundation because of the battle that Robbie fought. Robbie was a champion in many people’s books of someone who no matter what she was going through always wanted to help others. Never once did she complain. Never once did she quit. She fought to the very end.
The V Foundation awards 100 percent of direct donations to cancer research and programs. The V Foundation’s endowment covers administrative expenses.
