They were advised by Lisa Pignataro and not only did they win five matches, they also placed in the tournament championship and will be at the Vex Southern New York finals at East Rockaway High School on March 7.
A total of 30 robotic teams participated in the competition held on Feb. 8. They competed in the VEX Robotics Competition called Sky Rides. The game is played on a 12 by 12 square field with colored cubes in preset locations and posts of different heights around the side. The contest is timed and the robots can stack their cubes on posts or retrieve yellow sections from human players to build their own posts for points. Teams can form an alliance with other teams.
Each high school and middle school are given robot kits and are assigned an adviser from their school several months before the competition.
The competition was supported by Idesign Solutions, Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technolgy, VCAT Robotics Team and Robotics Competition and Education Foundation. The professors of Vaughn College were the judges and their students assisted in the games.
