A Glen Cove woman was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing jewelry from a resident of the assisted living facility where she was employed, according to authorities.
The Glen Cove Police Department reported that on the morning of Nov. 8, 2015, a 96-year-old victim, who was a resident at the Sunrise Assisted Living facility at 39 Forest Ave. in Glen Cove, reported that someone had stolen six valuable pieces of jewelry from her room.
The Sunrise Assisted Living staff began an internal investigation and the Glen Cove police were contacted. The subsequent investigation led to a housecleaning employee of the facility who had cleaned the victim’s room the morning the jewelry went missing.
On Jan. 4, 2016, Detective Lieutenant John Nagle of the Glen Cove Police Department reported the arrest of Glen Cove resident Maria Leyton, 53, who was charged with larceny and two counts of possession of stolen property.
The defendant will be arraigned in Glen Cove Court on Jan. 4.
