Valentines For Veterans

Members of Connolly Elementary School’s Student Council created handmade cards, puzzles and crafts for Nassau County veterans in honor of Valentine’s Day.

Under the guidance of advisers Susan Stanco and Monique Vaccaro, students took part in the Valentines for Vets program, writing heartfelt notes to local veterans to thank them for their service to the country.

Zanzibar Raza described what she thinks it means to be a veteran on a puzzle she created.

The children used a variety of craft items to create the cards, including red paper doilies, heart-shaped stickers and candy canes, which were glued together as heart decorations. The students also decorated puzzles with messages and pictures for the servicemen and women.

Stanco said the students were thrilled to send messages to Nassau County veterans and were happy to show thanks to those who sacrificed for our country.
