Bob Machida and I have been friends for more than 30 years. An extraordinary man, Bob will be an outstanding City Councilmember. His only agenda is to make our community better.
Bob is fiercely independent and owes no political favors to anyone. A graduate of Fordham Prep and Maryknoll Seminary with a Masters from Adelphi, Bob was part of a generation that answered President Kennedy’s call to “ask not what your country can do for you–ask instead what you can do for your country.” Bob served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia and he spent time in the American south registering our fellow citizens to vote during the tumultuous 1960s. He authored a book on the Eritrean War of Independence and has fought to protect Glen Cove’s environment. He has been a PTA president, teacher and union leader. He and his family are long time Glen Covers and his children attended and got great educations in our public schools.
Our city government will face many difficult choices in the next years. I believe it is critically important that our council representatives possess the indispensable qualities of character, independence and dedication to our community. Bob Machida has my vote.
