A Magical Night At Glen Cove Mansion

By Gary Simeone

Saturday, Feb. 20, will be a special night at the Glen Cove Mansion Hotel & Conference Center. There will be plenty of music, fun and games for all in the hotel’s Pub 1910 room to support a good cause, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event, St. Jude Magic of Music & Giving, was put together by Glen Cove resident Matilde Garcia Serra.

“I am happy to support this cause because I believe in what St. Jude’s stands for and I want to give back to a community in need,” said Garcia Serra, who will be performing her solo singing act at the event. “St. Jude’s does a great job in their fundraising efforts fighting childhood cancer and fighting for a cure and I wanted to be a part of it.”

StJudeMansion_021716DSt. Jude Research Hospital, founded in 1962, is a pediatric treatment and research facility focused on children’s catastrophic diseases. It is a nonprofit medical corporation.

The event will include three and a half hours of live music by local bands, complimentary food items and raffle prizes set up by local companies willing to contribute.

“This is the first time we are doing anything like this,” said Jocelyn Dastas, operations manager at the hotel. “It will be a really fun event with live entertainment from local bands and we will open up the pub to guests who are in-house. We will have a full bar with drink specials for patrons and people can come in and play a game of billiards, darts and foosball while listening to the music.”

Some of the musical acts at the event will include the Ed Fleck Band and Pete Charon, a Glen Cove native who plays different styles of music including classic rock, pop and country.

The event will take place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. in Pub 1910, which is located on the third floor of the mansion. Tickets are $20 per person.
