Arrested For Stealing


On Jan. 12, the Glen Cove Police Department arrested a man for stealing from an exchange student under his care.

According to authorities, the defendant, a senior assistant counselor, was responsible for overseeing the daily activities of Chinese foreign exchange students who were residing at 1100 Avalon Square in Glen Cove. During the first week of January, the victim noticed $1,000 missing from his apartment room.  On Jan. 12, police said the victim noticed an additional $800 missing from his room. A Glen Cove police officer began investigating the incident and was able to tie this defendant into the two room larcenies.

Arrest_012016AThe defendant is identified as 26-year-old Salvator M. Burgess who resides in Brooklyn.

“This defendant  was trusted to oversee the daily activities of the exchange students and had access to their rooms,” said Glen Cove Police Lieutenant John Nagle.

The defendant is charged with two counts of petit larceny and will be arraigned in Glen Cove Court on Jan. 19.
