The Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) and Nassau County brings the looks, the moves and the sounds of Prince to the Glen Cove village square plaza on Aug. 30 when Dean Ford and the Beautiful Ones perform on the last concert of the season 2019 Downtown Sounds concert series.
This highly-acclaimed tribute band presents a show dedicated to the music of the iconic performer whose innovative music spanned the genres of funk, rock, R&B, new wave, soul, psychedelia and pop. The band will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1958, Prince Rogers Nelson developed an interest in music as a young child and wrote his first song at the age of seven. Ten years later, he signed a recording contract with Warner Brothers Records and his debut album, For You, was released in 1978. The following year, his follow-up album Prince went platinum and his next three albums – Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981) and 1999 (1982) – continued his meteoric rise to superstardom. In 1984, he released his most critically-acclaimed and commercially-successful album, Purple Rain, which spent 24 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart and wound up selling 25 million copies worldwide. His career, which spanned four decades, was cut short due to his untimely death in 2016.
Dressed to the nines, Dean Ford embodies Prince as he and his band, The Beautiful Ones, perform all of his hits including Purple Rain in its entirety. The band was formed in 2011 when Dean and his musician friends put on their first of many sold-out tributes to Prince in Portland, Maine. The show, entitled “Purple Brainz,” is now held annually at the prestigious Port City Music Hall. They’ve performed with Matt “Doctor” Fink, the keyboardist from Prince’s actual band. However, they have never brought their high-energy show to Glen Cove so make sure to be there when they bring the 2019 Downtown Sounds to a close on Aug. 30.
