The Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department (GCVFD) hosted its annual installation dinner recently at the city’s fire house. GCVFD Chief Philip Grella Jr. welcomed department members, their families and distinguished guests while ex-chief Michael J. Maher moderated the festivities. Mayor Reggie Spinello conducted the swearing in of the officers for each of the GCVFD’s four companies, the Fire Police Unit and the Rescue Squad.
“I am proud of the work that each and every one of our members does to safeguard the Glen Cove community,” said Grella.
“People often forget that our fire department members are all volunteers who each day put their lives on the line for the health and wellness of our residents,” said Spinello. “On behalf of the city, we give our heartfelt gratitude to each of you and your families and wish our officers and their companies continued success during your 180th anniversary year.”
Engine & Hose Company No. 1, under the direction of Grella, includes Captain Christopher J. Valeo,1st Lieutenant Thomas Kelly, secretary Pericles Averpoulos, treasurer Robert Petrucci and fire commissioner ex-chief Michael J. Maher.
Chemical Engine Company No. 1, under the direction of Chief Robert F. Marino, is captain Justin Valeo,
1st Lieutenant Dominick Martone, Jr., 2nd Lieutenant Michael Capobianco III, secretary Roni Epstein, treasurer Ex-Chief Anthony J. Tripp and fire commissioner Thomas Underhill.
Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, under the direction of Chief Marvin Tate Sr., is Captain Michael Glidden, 1st Lieutenant Robert Hansen, 2nd Lieutenant Lisa Wellenreuther, secretary Gianfranco Pagliara, treasurer Andrew Graf, Sr. and fire commissioner Robert Budzenski.
Pacific Engine & Hose Company No. 1, under the direction of Chief Robert Retoske, is Captain Peter Solomito, 1st Lieutenant Eugene McGuire, Jr., 2nd Lieutenant Daniel Greenfield, secretary Joseph Morales, treasurer Robert J. Sujeski and fire commissioner Theodore Valeo, Jr.
The Fire Police Unit captain is Michael J. Macmenamie, 1st Officer Jeffrey Jackson, 2nd Officer Vincent Martinez, Sr., 3rd officer Karl Van Allen and secretary Allan F. Lamere.
The Rescue Squad includes 1st Officer Daniel Pietrafesa, 2nd Officer Peter Solomito, 3rd Officer Gerald Aparicio and secretary Michael Capobianco III.
The GCVFD is located at 10 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Cove. The department holds an open house every fall, giving residents the opportunity to learn more about important safety procedures, fire prevention as well as a chance to tour the fire house and take a ride in a fire truck.
