Landing Elementary School students who achieved success in physical education this year were celebrated during the school’s annual Field Day event.
Joseph Johnson and Sofia Kern were awarded the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance award for excellence in Physical Education. Also honored at the ceremony were students who were deemed outstanding, including Jacob Bruce, Caroline Fahey, Jovanne Howe, Allyna James, Joseph Johnson, Michael Johnson, Sofia Kern, Antony Maldonado, Samantha Morales, Victor Scarmato, Samantha Seery and Tigist Willson. Lidani Pesantez was the recipient of the Courage Trophy.
Students who broke the Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run (PA.C.E.R.) records held at Landing School were also recognized, including third-grader Madison Kaffl (50 laps), Sujeily Gonzalez (53 laps), and third-grader Jonathan Patino (61 laps). Fourth-grader Valerie Acosta and fifth-grader Sofia Kern were also honored for completing 59 laps each.
Other recognition was given to students in the 80s club. These students achieved 80 sit-ups on both their pre- and post-tests for curl-ups as part of their baseline and summative fitness tests.
