Locust Valley Falcons Earn Exceptional Accolades

Locust Valley Falcons have earned incredible honors for their accomplishments during the winter sports season. Senior Gage DeNatale was recognized as an All-Long Island wrestler. Senior Paige O’Brien was named to the Newsday First Team All-Long Island for girls basketball. Varsity basketball coach Mike Guidone earned the title of Nassau County Girls Basketball Coach of the Year.

Gage, a New York State wrestling champion, was recognized by Newsday as an All-Long Island wrestler. He has worked tirelessly over the years to become one of the top wrestlers in the state. Gage has proven himself as a leader both on and off the mat, and will continue his wrestling career this fall at the United States Naval Academy.

“There is no one more deserving of this recognition than Gage, and we continue to be proud of each of his accomplishments,” said Dr. Danielle Turner, director of physical education, health and athletics.

Paige was chosen by Newsday as one of 10 players and two coaches for the All-Long Island basketball team. Her coach, Mike Guidone, was also selected for this honor.

“Paige is one of hardest-working, hardest-playing, dedicated student-athletes to emerge from Locust Valley,” Dr. Turner said. “Her work ethic is second to none, and she has established herself as a leader both on and off the court.” During this basketball season, Paige surpassed the 1,000-point mark as one of Locust Valley’s all-time leading scorers.

Coach Mike Guidone is not only the Nassau County Girls Basketball Coach of the Year, but he is a Locust Valley hero, a dedicated three-sport coach for girls and boys varsity tennis, as well as girls basketball. He commits himself to each of these programs year-round, not only in season. Dr. Turner said Coach Guidone worked tirelessly to put together practice plans, scouting reports and individualized game plans to guide the girls basketball team to a perfect 23-0 record and to clinch the Nassau County Class A championship title.

“Coach has used the phrase ‘all in’ this year as a way to energize and motivate his players, and that is exactly the way he coached – all in,” she said. “This is a well-deserved honor and represents the tremendous level of commitment that all of our coaches display on a daily basis.”

Congratulations to our exceptional Falcons who epitomize the phrase “LV Proud!”
