Glen Cove Police Chief William Whitton recently announced that Lt. Detective John Nagle was selected by the LIU Post College of Liberal Arts And Sciences as the 2016 Outstanding Graduate Criminal Justice Student of the Year. Nagle was honored at the university’s 61st annual awards ceremony at the Hillwood Commons Lecture Hall and received his master of science degree in criminal justice last month at LIU Post.
“On behalf of the Glen Cove Police Department we take great pride in Lt. Detective Nagle’s recognition as this is a true reflection of his leadership and personal dedication to the importance of continuing his education to best serve our community and the detectives under his command,” said Whitton.
Nagle was also inducted into the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society at graduation, an academic honor society that recognizes outstanding scholarship and academic ability. Dr. Harvey Kushner, head of the LIU Criminal Justice Department, when presenting Nagle with this prestigious honor joked that Nagle was the commanding officer of the Glen Cove Detective Division and promised he wasn’t there on official business.
