Obituary: Angelo G. DeMeo


Angelo G. DeMeo, age 93, of Sayville, formerly of Glen Cove, on Dec. 23, 2018. Beloved husband of Mary for 70 years. Devoted father of Angela Works, Jerry (Cheryl), Andy (Erica) and the late Joe. Cherished grandfather (“Poppi”) of Christian and Miles Works, Olivia, Jerry Jr., Gregory and Mathew DeMeo.

Angelo was the retired principal of George Westinghouse High School in New York City and an assistant professor at Columbia University. Before its closure, he was also the director of Kings Point Day Camp in Great Neck. He served as New York City’s PSAL Soccer Commissioner in the 1970s, was a one-time New York City handball champ and in 1997 was inducted into the Long Island Senior Softball Association Hall of Fame.
Angelo served in WWII in the European theatre earning a Bronze Star. He was also an avid fisherman and long-time member of the Glen Cove Anglers Club. He served on the Glen Cove Waterfront Commission and was instrumental in the creation of the fishing pier at Prybil Beach and the annual Snapper Derby.

His extraordinary wit, intellect, love of children and nature will be greatly missed. Funeral Mass at the Church of St. Rocco. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home.
