Police Step Up Traffic Enforcement

This week,  the governor’s office is authorizing extra patrols throughout New York State, funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC), in which the City of Glen Cove Police Department will be participating.

“Each year, students throughout New York State look forward to attending their prom and graduation ceremonies,” said Det. Lt. John Nagle of the Glen Cove Police Department. “These special moments in a child’s life become meaningless when a child dies in a car crash. Cell phones and distracted drivers are a real problem, especially for younger drivers.”

The GTSC began this initiative to help reduce accidents involving young adults in the upcoming prom season and beyond. These patrols will concentrate on various vehicle and traffic law violations, which include speeding in school zones, cell phone and texting, seatbelt violations and underage drinking and impaired driving.

“Let’s keep this prom and graduation season a safe one for teens and their families,” said Nagle.
